Earlier this week, a Pennsylvania man was arrested for multiple assault and harassment crimes after he allegedly verbally and physically assaulted a firefighter and police officer. The incident began when the man's daughter was involved in a car accident, which likely caused him to become agitated and to attack the emergency responders.
According to police reports, the alleged assault took place when the 36-year-old man and his wife arrived at the scene of a rush hour car accident involving the man's daughter. When he asked about his daughter, the man was told that she had been taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries to her hand.
Understandably concerned about his daughter's well-being, the man then became upset. He allegedly began yelling obscenities at firefighters at the scene, telling one that the firefighter should be "out in a plow truck salting the roads," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He then threatened to have the firefighter fired.
When a police officer attempted to intervene into the elevating situation, the man reportedly refused to came down. The officer began the process of arresting the man for disorderly conduct, but the man lost his composure, punching the officer in the neck and face several times. The officer attempted to use a Taser on the man, but it did not work for an unknown reason. The man eventually calmed down and was taken into custody.
Now, the man is facing criminal charges of simple assault, aggravated assault of an officer, disorderly conduct and harassment.
