A month after he was arrested, charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse, and released on $100,000 bail, former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has been rearrested and charged with several additional offenses. The latest sex crimes charges were filed after a grand jury heard testimony from two alleged victims who were not included in the original indictment.
In addition to the 40 felony and misdemeanor charges that have already been filed against Sandusky, he is now facing six first-degree felony charges, including four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and two counts of unlawful contact with a minor. He was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children and one count of indecent assault, all third-degree felonies, and two counts of corruption of minors and one count of indecent assault, all first-degree misdemeanors.
The new indictment is the product of a grand jury hearing during which two men, referred to in court documents as Victim 9 and Victim 10, gave testimony on their interactions with Sandusky. Their abuse reportedly followed a pattern in which the coach 'groomed' them and gave them gifts before initiating physical contact, which then escalated to sexual contact. Both of the purported victims were participants in The Second Mile charity program run by Sandusky, one in 1997 when he was 10 years old and the second in 2004 when he was 11 or 12 years old.
Sandusky was arraigned on the additional charges, and bail was set at $250,000. His first preliminary hearing on the earlier charges is scheduled for next week.
