Singer Gavin DeGraw recently announced that he would be cancelling several planned concerts, including two scheduled shows in Pennsylvania this weekend, while he recovers from an assault that took place in New York earlier this week. According to a spokesperson for DeGraw, he decided to cancel the shows on the advice of his doctors, who told him to take extra time to recover from his injuries.

The assault took place early Monday morning in New York City, as DeGraw headed for home after a night out with friends in Manhattan's East Village. After leaving a club he co-owns with his brother, DeGraw was approached and then attacked by an unknown group of three men. As he stumbled from the scene of the assault, he fell on an unmoving taxi cab about 13 blocks away. The cab drove away, and a witness dialed 911.

DeGraw, 34, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for a concussion, broken nose, black eyes, and various cuts and bruises. He is expected to make a full recovery, although he wrote on his Twitter account that he was still "seeing double." New York police are still investigating the assault, and have no suspects in custody. DeGraw was reportedly not intoxicated at the time of the attack.

Following the attack, DeGraw and his handlers made the decision to cancel his appearances at a number of upcoming shows, including the August 14 show in Bethlehem and the August 15 show in Hershey. He also cancelled a television appearance to promote his upcoming album in order to give him more time to recover.
